Old Northeast Homes for Sale and Area Info
An Historic and Prestigious Neighborhood
Old Northeast is an historic neighborhood in St. Petersburg. It has a lengthy waterfront to the west along Tampa Bay and Coffee Pot Bayou. 4th Street N. 5th Avenue N, and 30th Avenue N form the rest of its boundaries. The area has been designated Historic District status by the Department of the Interior. Among the many buildings of historical interest is the former Church of Christ Scientist, now the Palladium Theater of St. Petersburg College. It was built in 1925 in the Romanesque Revival style by renowned architect Henry Lovewell Cheney.
Another point of interest is Sunken Gardens, one of Florida's original tourist attractions. The city has now taken over this St. Petersburg treasure. Over a century old, it is a lush tropical paradise in the midst of the city. The Neighborhood Association takes considerable pride in the area's beauty and sense of community and schedules many special events. Old Northeast is also adjacent to the vibrant St. Petersburg Downtown and is one of the most prestigious addresses in the entire city.
